Mi Mobile China Unicom SIM Review and How to Activate

Only a handful of Mi Fans outside China can probably enjoy the services of this special type of Sim Card, dubbed as the Mi Mobile Sim, this is a joint collaboration between China Unicom and Xiaomi to bring you this one awesome package that you can enjoy as perks of being a Xiaomi Fan. One basic requirement to be able to enjoy this service is to have a China ID Card which is present in every Chinese Citizen holding a China Passport. Well this is the only limitation that almost all of us dont have, lucky me I was able to obtain one and was able to activate one.

Now plugging in the SIM card is pretty easy, I was able to place it on my Mi6 (Nano Sized SIM), the sim card has 3 cuts, normal, micro and nano size. Then you will need to download the app from the QR Code at the back of the card, it will then guide you on installing it for the first time. Now if you dont have signal, dont panic, its because the number has not been activated yet.

After activating the sim, your phone will look like this:

But of course, to obtain that, you need to activate it first, after downloading the app from the QR Code, the white blue sim card logo with an app name of 小米移动 will then appear on your phone, then you need to enter it.

After than when you entered the menu, choose the 3rd option with the onion looking logo.

You will then be requested to scan the bar code at the back of the card to proceed.

To choose the data plan, I choose the 1 month 300 MB data for 6 RMB. This is probably the cheapest that I saw from the menu. It includes 60 minutes of local calls, then data charges will be 1 RMB for every 300 MB of data.

Basically that was it for the Mi Mobile Sim, now we did bring this Sim to Hong Kong to try the Mi Roaming Sim, a feature that you can use when you bring your Mi Mobile SIM outside China.
Mi Roaming Sim
We were able to select a package for 1 day unlimited data in Hong Kong (thats what they claimed to be) but later found out that its 300 MB for 4G data then when you used up the 300 MB, you are unlimited on 2G all the way till your registration expires. Now we used Wechat pay to pay for it and voila, it was accepted. Now to use Mi Roaming SIM, basically its a virtual sim, you need to free up your sim 2 slot, in short you should not plug any sim card into it.

Payment Successful!

When the phone restarts, it says welcome to Xiaomi China Unicom!

We have purchased 1 day data to be used in Hong Kong while still in China.

You can activate it while still in airport, basically it will take effect once it detected that you have landed in Hong Kong. Amazing.

You can check your consumption.

Mi Roaming Sim will appear on sim 2 when you have activated it.

This is your phone when you have finally landed in Hong Kong, Sim 1 will no longer have signal, while sim 2 is active.

After using up 300 MB, its pretty slow in 2G signal.

This is only available in Xiaomi China Webstore and Mi Home Store in China for 50 RMB.
