While Xiaomi has been quick to release the Redmi 3 Pro after the successful debut of its sibling the Redmi 3, it is no doubt the same unit withsome added features and specs to spice up their latest Redmi 5” smartphone offering. While things are not so bright for the Chinese brand back in 2015, they needed to catch up with domestic rival Huawei in terms of market share,hence the drastic improvements of the Redmi Series from plastic to brushed aluminum metal case.

The Redmi 3 Pro got released after 3 months since the release of the Redmi 3, the improvements are the following: Fingerprint sensor, additional 1GB of RAM and additional 16GB of Storage. At first rumors said Xiaomi will downgrade the battery to 3000 Mah in order to give way to the fingerprint sensor at the back, luckily they did not pursue that move otherwise the long lasting battery life of the Redmi 3 that we know won’t exist in this unit anymore.

Xiaomi first shot at an all-metal smartphone in the form of the Redmi Note 3 has been a success not only in China but already branched out and warmly embraced by Mi fans in India. The Redmi 3 Pro carried over the metal body of the Redmi 3 series, it has since been elegant and slim and it’s the current trending designs even for other smartphone manufacturers in China.

The Redmi 3 Pro sports curved edges design and gently sloping sides to make it easy to grip on the hands. The Redmi 3 Pro no longer has the criss-cross pattern on the back which many commented that it’s girlish in design.

The top of the phone shows the 3.5mm audio jack as well as the IR blaster and the noise-cancellation mic. While at the bottom we can find the Micro USB port, we were a bit disappointed with this one as we thought that they will sport the all new USB C port in this improved unit. The loudspeaker is still located at the back of the phone which prevents sounds from being clear when its lying flat on the table.

The phone is pretty easy to carry, being the 5 inches smartphone that it is, this is the perfect size for one handed use. The HD display is pretty good and it is equipped with the sunlight display technology.

This model has the latest MIUI 7.2 installed but still running on Android Lollipop 5.1.1, bootloader is locked therefore you have to checkout en.miui.com/unlock to flash your favorite custom rom should you require in the future.


Snapdragon 616, handles daily task well
The Redmi 3 Pro still sports the same SoC as its sibling,Snapdragon 616 is almost the same beast as the Snapdragon 615 only improvements in the LTE category and the antennas performance. This processor performs wellfor daily task like calls, text, messengers, social apps and online games. Its performance for multitasking is also good considering it has 8-cores ready tohelp you push those tasks to the finish line.



As for the thermal performance, the Snapdragon 616 is pretty normal running at 33.5C for standby, 35.5C for normal usage and 37C for fullload.

As for the AnTuTu benchmark scores, the Redmi 3 Pro gathered 32,770 Points which is just a few markers away from Redmi 3’s score of 31992, considering its just memory and storage upgrade.


Audio and Video:
We have tested the audio for the loudspeaker, it is pretty decent for a small phone of its size. We also tested watching 720p video via youtube and its pretty clear and crisp. Good job on that Redmi 3 Pro.

Badass Camera for a Budget Series
Xiaomi carried over the Samsung ISOCELL sensor 13-Megapixel camera under this budget device, the result is pretty awesome as we were able to grab pretty good snaps for indoor and outdoor, low light and well lit objects. The front camera is also pretty good for video calls as it sports a 5MP camera above the display panel.

A Battery that Keeps Going
One of the main focus that we have notice from this unit, othert han its pocket friendly price, is its battery. Rumors once said that they are going to cut down the battery from 4100Mah to 3000Mah in order to give way to the Fingerprint sensor, but luckily they were able to squish in the both together, and the winner? we the consumers. We were able to let PC Mark do the battery stress test for us and after the long endurance test, it yielded awhooping 13 hour 54 minutes for its battery. Pretty impressive huh?

Verdict: Xiaomi managed to Impress Us Again and Again
With the recent launch of Mi5 and the success of the Redmi Note 3 Pro series, Xiaomi need a little below 1000 RMB phone that is competitive in the market, and hence this review unit is the savior. We know that the Redmi 3 Pro will be a pretty sturdy phone, great performance, excellent camera and long battery life for just 899 RMB this is without shipping and taxes.
